Lego and Me
a small intro into my relationship with Lego
How LEGO Helped Me Rebuild After Afghanistan
For many people, LEGO is a childhood memory. A toy you built on the living room floor, something you eventually packed away as life moved on.
For me, it became something very different.
After serving in Afghanistan, like many veterans, I came home carrying more than just memories. Adjusting back into normal life wasnât always straightforward, and dealing with PTSD meant I had to find ways to focus my mind, slow things down, and create some space from the constant noise that can sometimes follow you home from service.
Unexpectedly, LEGO became one of the things that helped.
Finding Calm in Building
It started simply enough. I picked up a set one evening, more out of curiosity and nostalgia than anything else. What I didnât expect was how much it would help.
When you build with LEGO, your focus narrows to something simple and constructive. Piece by piece, step by step, you create something tangible. Your mind concentrates on the instructions, the colours, the shapes. For a while, everything else fades into the background.
That quiet focus was something I hadnât realised I needed.
Building became a form of mindfulness without it feeling like therapy. Just bricks, patience, and progress.
From Personal Escape to Shared Passion
Over time, LEGO stopped being something I did occasionally and became a genuine hobby. I started exploring different sets, discovering rare and retired models, and reconnecting with that sense of creativity that many of us forget about as adults.
The more I got into it, the more I realised there were countless other adults who had rediscovered LEGO too. Builders, collectors, and enthusiasts all over the world.
That passion is what eventually led to the creation of The Rare Brick.
Building Something Together
The Rare Brick is also a shared dream. My good friend Paul has been working alongside me to bring the idea to life. From building the website to sourcing and selling the sets, it has been something we have been developing together.
What started as conversations about LEGO, collecting, and the enjoyment of building gradually turned into the idea of creating a place where others could find the sets they have been searching for. Especially the rare, retired, or hard to find ones that collectors really value.
Working on this project together has been just as rewarding as the building itself. It has given us something positive to focus on, something creative to develop, and something we hope other LEGO fans will enjoy being part of.
Why The Rare Brick Exists
The Rare Brick isnât just another LEGO store. Itâs built around the idea that these bricks mean something different to different people.
For some, itâs nostalgia.
For others, itâs creativity.
For collectors, itâs the thrill of finding that rare set theyâve been searching for.
For me, it started as something that helped me rebuild a sense of calm and focus after a difficult chapter in life.
And now, with Paul alongside me, it has grown into something weâre both proud to be building together.
More Than Just Bricks
LEGO might seem simple from the outside. But anyone who builds knows itâs much more than that.
Itâs patience.
Itâs creativity.
Itâs problem solving.
And sometimes, itâs a quiet moment of peace when you need it most.
If youâve ever felt that too, then youâre in the right place.
Welcome to The Rare Brick. đ§±
